I went the Photographers’ Gallery to look at the William S. Burroughs and David Lynch exhibits, and to attend a lecture on the cut-up technique.
It was crowded - or at least, there were enough people for me to find it crowded - and I felt uncomfortable milling around and publicly looking at photographs and items from the exhibit. There were a lot of haircuts, glasses with thick plastic frames, loud tights for the girls and poorly-maintained beards for the boys. I dipped into the lecture room as soon as it was reasonable.
Not many people at the lecture seemed very interested, and the visitors all appeared to leave the building or go to the Warhol exhibit afterwards. I went up the stairs and was pleased to discovered that the Burroughs and Lynch exhibits were empty, and took my time wandering around and looking.
This photograph is of the looping, roughly nine minutes long video exhibit of Towers Open Fire, an experimental video by William S. Burroughs and Brion Gysin. I hadn’t noticed the window on the stairwell until I went up to see the Lynch exhibit afterwards. I wonder how many people watched me watching the video.
