New Lucky House sits at the corner of Nathan and Jordan Road on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong. It is one of the older buildings in the area and reflects so much of the history and culture of the city. The building is painted this way as in the past many building owners would paint the outside of the building attractive colours or designs so they can attract new tenants.
Like most buildings, inside are shops, workshops, hostels, housing, medical offices, and a whole host of others. To say it is a multi-use building is an understatement. The most interesting parts of Hong Kong are not what you see on the outside but the goings on in the buildings.
I like the building because it is a representation of the past as well as so many characteristics not found in the modern glass and steel buildings of today. My fear is it will be torn down or hugely redeveloped which makes it lose a lot of its character.
