"A negative result is just as important as a positive. We still learned something." Even when expected, the judgment

March 28th, 2014, 6pm

It was 10°C with broken clouds. There was moderate breeze.

“A negative result is just as important as a positive. We still learned something.” Even when expected, the judgment of the statistician is a death knell for the beloved research. No, not the death knell. It still lives in the zero afterlife. Null hypothesis proven. There is no difference. It’s the unprodigal son, it lives in your basement so that you have to lay claim to it in front of your neighbors, coworkers. But it has no purpose except disappointment.
