Jamnagar Bandhnis

June 29th, 2014, 1pm

The slow and steady decline of talented but unrecognized art form is now a reality. Very few people in Jamnagar, known for its Bandhni, are into this art. Those who still do this complicated hand made art say they do because they want to survive. Despite this art going places, generations of people who are experts in this field have gone down the train leaving a handful only to narrate their tales of misery. They still get not more than Rs 150 (3$) per day which is just half of what an unskilled farm labourer gets. Obsessed with capitalism, we make a serious mistake of ignoring the real talent.
