Seeing this Spitfire and Eurofighter Typhoon fly together the other Saturday at Biggin Hill was a wonderful thing! A very dramatic illustration of how far fighter aircraft have come in 70 years. But despite the exhilarating, earth-shaking roar of the modern turbofan jet engines in the Typhoon, nothing can beat the distinctive, highly evocative sound of the Spit’s Merlin engine.
