Yet another blue plaque in Marchmont Street, this time for the famous conductor and cellist Sir John Barbirolli. Well, famous if you’re above a certain age and/or into classical music!
I vaguely recall that when I was young my parents had a tape of the Hallé Orchestra playing something or other - quite possible something by Elgar - which could well have been conducted by Barbirolli.
The house where he lived between the ages of 14 and 30 is now occupied by the Brunswick Centre.
