The Grunwick Centre

June 15th, 2014, 12pm

It was 16°C with broken clouds. The breeze was gentle.

Named to honour the strikers of the famous Grunwick Dispute the Grunwich Centre is, in fact, fifty feet beneath the ground - it’s a small library and community area attached to the network of GPO tunnels beneath London. Originally a management sauna, it was co-opted via union negotation in 1979 and dedicated to ‘the education and solidarity of GPO cyclists’. It became an informal meeting place for the GPO VeloRacing Club in the 1980s before being refitted as a sort of cybercafe in the 1998.
