I love these old pulleys on my office buildings - they remind me of the continuity of time, and a sense of history and place. My office building used to house Associated Newspapers Ltd, and in 1902, there used to be printing presses in the basement. I presume these pulleys were used for transporting the large reams of paper.
And now that the building is a publishing house again (minus the printing presses) there is continuation.
