This morning, friends and strangers got together for a Secret Breakfast Club. We sat in the garden at the Edible Schoolyard started by Alice Waters in Berkeley.

April 5th, 2014, 3pm

It was 17.2°C with few clouds. The breeze was brisk.

We had a delicious garden-to-table meal that included Moroccan chickpeas with lamb and poached egg, spinach and citrus salad with dates and olives, and a dessert of saffron panna cotta with candied kumquats and hibiscus reduction.

The Edible Schoolyard is at Martin Luther King Jr Middle School in Berkeley. It’s a project started by Alice Waters with the Chez Panisse Foundation. The school children tend to the garden and the chickens, and the entire 1-acre space is open to the public.

We enjoyed eating out under the blue skies, surrounded by lazy bumble bees, morning birds, and spring flowers.

David Wade, Anne Marie and Christine said thanks.
