Cities and the Dead

October 28th, 2013, 2pm

As a principle, I don’t photograph people without their permission, especially people in what I consider a vulnerable position; the elderly, children, the homeless, the needy. But for this man I made an exception and stole this moment…he reminded me of my grandfather…

“You reach a moment in life when, among the people you have known, the dead outnumber the living. And the mind refuses to accept more faces, more expressions: on every new face you encounter, it prints the old forms, for each one it finds the most suitable mask.” — The Invisible Cities, Italo Calvino
