Commuting — ”is regular travel between one’s place of residence and place of work or full-time study. It sometimes refers to any regular or often repeated traveling between locations, even when not work-related.”
Commuting is a job on its own. And a particularly uncomfortable one on a Monday morning heading into Central London. A sea of “I don’t want to be here” faces, with eyes that never break contact with the distant void ahead, make up for a fascinating sight of social behavior.
Yet, there’s something romantically raw about watching people commuting. Next time, maybe tomorrow, stop and look at everyone else going by. Give way, for once, for that poor soul who ran into the wrong platform and now makes his rushed way to the other side.
Those who stop every now and then, I think they’re the happiest ones.
