On my lunchtime walks in and around Bloomsbury I come across quite a few large doorways / doorsteps that are decorated in one way or another rather than just being concrete slabs or plain tiles. Most commonly that means mosaics.
The one in the photo above is outside a house on the south side of Russell Square and dates, I think, from Victorian times. It’s a simple, but striking, black and white repeating pattern, and I’m very glad that they’ve not ripped it up and replaced it with something boring and bland.
I think I shall try to document a few more of these delightful doorsteps as time allows.
