This is Youssef.

June 5th, 2014, 9pm

It was 22°C with scattered clouds. The breeze was gentle.

His mother is deaf and a terrific cook. His father smuggles alcohol into Hebron and fills the backyard with things he finds in the street, with the vague idea of selling them at some point. Mostly they get stolen. Youssef has only one arm and not many friends to play with, since his is the only family left in a house right at the entrance to a Jewish settlement, but he has a computer he uses to listen to music and he really likes the Windows Media Player visualisations. Next month he’ll go to Dubai for medical treatment for his arm, if the visa comes through, insh’allah. Youssef is lovely.
