I have often been told that this grand art deco building - the University of London’s Senate House - was to be Hitler’s UK headquarters once he had conquered Britain. (See here, for example.)

I have no idea where this rumour originated, or whether there is any truth in it, but I suppose it is rather an imposing building.

It is also supposed to be the inspiration for the Ministry of Truth in George Orwell’s 1984.

Perhaps less well-known, it has been used (inside and out) as a film set in many productions, including two Batman films: Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises.
