For almost half the cost of a chocolate bar, the Star Ferry is THE best deal in Hong Kong. If I have the time, I always prefer to cross Victoria Harbour on the ferry. It is slow. It can be a bit stinky, if you are on the lower deck. It can be crowded but the sounds are of Korean, Japanese, English, Mandarin and Cantonese help to remind you of how cosmopolitan this city truly is.
It is at night, riding with the one you love, which makes this trip even better. The hundreds of lights from the office towers, the slight bobbing up and down of the sea, the sound of the engine chugging along all make this one of the most romantic experiences.
For this picture, I was on my way to meet my love. It was a cooler day at only 15 degrees instead of the low to mid 20’s it has been so far. Every time I was in school at HKU, my love and I would walk down and take the ferry from school. It was time for us to rehash the day and to connect.
The crossing times are quick but the experiences last a long time.
