Perhaps to say that we belittle small things is to state the obvious. They’re small, after all, so what else would we do?!
But sometimes it’s good to stop and think about those small things, the easily and deliberately overlooked things, the things that we are, in our day, encouraged to despise. We’re easily duped into thinking that the only things that really matter in life are the big things, the special achievements that lie outside the daily “grind” and regular routine that actually makes up 90% of most people’s lives. We must seek ‘adventure’ because what we do day-in day-out is just empty drudgery, but by believing that lie we deny ourselves the opportunity to find joy in those very things that we’ve been persuaded to despise as common and insignificant.
But I digress.
I wonder, did you notice the ‘e’ in the photo? To a liquor connoisseur that small letter, the most commonly used letter in the English alphabet, the vowel that just blends in, is highly significant. You wouldn’t want to go into an Irish-themed pub like this one and ask for whisky, unless of course you enjoy being cussed at. You see, sometimes small details matter greatly.
I know, because although I drink neither whiskey nor whisky, I am partial to an occasional cider.
No, not cyder. Cider.
