This morning we had our coffee al fresco at The Piggery in the Dandenong Ranges near Melbourne. A very fine brew. The Piggery was one once, but now it’s left all that behind for a new upmarket life, catering for international travelers, babies and mums (and dads), intellectuals, gays, trades people, and the 1%. At least, looking around, that is my guess about the late morning crowd. For a late breakfast, I had scrambled ducks’ eggs and delicious (though a little troubling) strips of crispy bacon. My vegetarian days are certainly over, but I had a major twinge thinking about the family of ducks and ducklings we just saw on the lake at the adjacent Alfred Nicholas gardens.
When I joined Hi two years ago, it was not uncommon for people to share their morning coffee experience with the world by posting on the topic ‘Today’s Coffee’ as I have just done. It was a major step above the boring Facebook shot of the evening’s Mac and Cheese, or whatever, perhaps slightly elevated by the better design context Hi provides.
