We live near the University of Saskatchewan on a street with a lot of rental properties. Every spring and fall we find treasures in the alleyway.
This cymbal was hit a bit too exuberantly during a rehearsal at some point. By the live heavy metal music that came from the house we found it behind I’m not at all surprised that one edge was cracked and bent.
My husband strung the cymbal up in our garden so I could try it out as a potential found instrument. The broken edge gives a subtle rattle to the timbre of it but so as not to give anyone tetanus my husband will grind the sharp edges and then I’ll give it another try.
This may be another part to the puzzle that is the performance project I am mulling over.
