David wade Chamber’s moment on “Two Governor’s Houses” reminded me:

The governor of Michigan has a summer home, provided by the state, on Mackinac Island, an ultra-tourist destination on an island in the Straits of Mackinac between Lakes Michigan and Huron.

I earned this Moment talking with a citizen of Michigan (disgruntled?) standing outside the summer home of the Governor of Michigan on Mackinac Island.

Notice, she told me, when the news has reported that the governor of Michigan ‘returned from the Upper Peninsula to Lansing’ to deal with some crises or other.

There is no way a Governor of Michigan would be caught dead among the ne’er-do-well “Yoopers” of the Upper Peninsula except during an election season perhaps.

The copper mines were exhausted nearly a half century ago. Calumet, with its opulent sandstone buildings once worthy of a governor’s stay, is now mostly a ghost town.

When the press office says the governor of Michigan returned from the Upper Peninsula know that he just left the summer mansion on Mackinac Island.
