Wow! What Wonderful Wisteria!

April 29th, 2014, 1pm

I decided to wander in a different direction for my lunchtime walk today, as I had made a mental note to explore this part of central London a bit more after having walked through at high speed last week when going to a meeting.

I certainly wasn’t disappointed! There are some superbly preserved Georgian houses in this area, with wide doors, immaculate sash windows, perfect brickwork and small but neat front gardens.

While walking along one road I glanced down a side street and this glorious wisteria caught my eye. After taking a couple of photos the owner emerged looking slightly puzzled, so I asked if it was OK for me to take some pictures of the wisteria. I was amused by his reaction - “Several people have stopped to take pictures in the past few days and I wondered why”. Er, excuse me?! You have this most magnificent wisteria climbing up the corner of your house right to the roof, in bloom, and you’re wondering why people are stopping to take photos??? Not that I said that obviously :-) I just thanked him politely for letting me take my pictures and he went back inside while I walked slowly away to see what other treasures were hiding in these streets.

One other photo I’ll include here is this rather good view of the BT Tower that you get from this part of London. It’s been a grey and slightly misty day today, so the view wasn’t brilliant, but I think the tower still looks quite impressive.
