Measuring popularity...

October 2nd, 2013, 2pm

So, I popped out for my lunch break, and in the short time while I was out of the office my inbox filled up with notification emails confirming bookings for a particular event that has just been announced by one of the research institutes at the university where I work.

I should explain that I create the booking forms for many of these.

We run various conferences and seminars every year and I find it interesting to see how quickly tickets sell for particular events. Although various factors contribute to this rate, undoubtedly a key issue is the popularity of the particular speaker(s) leading the event. Some events never sell out, even if announced months in advance. Others though can sell out in days, especially if there is one particular man due to speak.

So who is this man who tops the league as the fastest-selling academic? Well, that would be telling now, wouldn’t it?! :-)

But I find the answer quite amusing, as personally whenever I read anything by this person, I’m completely baffled and haven’t really got a clue as to what he’s meaning.

Which I expect says a lot more about me than him.

Cassie and David Wade said thanks.
