We flew from Cape Town to San Diego, at great physical and emotional cost, to have a family vacation and attend a family reunion. When you spend that much time and money on something, you want to enjoy it. Instead it’s been a time of the highest highs and the lowest lows.

When we travel, we tend to post pictures of our happy times. We don’t feel comfortable sharing the fact that everything isn’t great. I think that’s dishonest, and I think we can help each other out if we were a little bit more honest about what we’re going through.

So, in a moment of despair, on our second visit to the paediatrician with our youngest, here is such a photo. It’s not a great moment, but it’s an honest one.
