Who needs right angles?!

January 23rd, 2014, 4pm

It was 8°C with few clouds. There was moderate breeze.

A number of the old Georgian houses backing onto the office building where I work have this problem. Well, I say problem, but is it actually a problem?

Distorted windows add character. Sagging architecture is surely just a sign of old age, as in humans. And just as people can grow old gracefully, buildings should have the same right.

I reckon that ripping this out and replacing it with a perfectly rectangular uPVC double glazed unit would be like a person undergoing major plastic surgery and ending up looking grotesque. Yuk!

No, I’m glad that this is all wonky. I think it’s very becoming for a 200-and-something year-old!

Valerie, David Wade, Anne Marie and Cassie said thanks.
