A couple of weeks ago I foolishly said “I must start a delightful doorsteps database”. To which several people replied along the lines of “Please do!”.
Well, I suppose I’d better do as requested, so here is delightful doorstep number 2.
As the title indicates, this is the large doorstep of number 24, Tavistock Place, now home to the less than luxurious Roma Hotel. You can see it here on Google Street View.
This is twinned, sort-of, with the doorstep at number 22, which I’ll post another time. Both are bright and colourful, and clearly not original! The properties date from the first decade of the 19th century and are Grade II listed, but I don’t know when the eye-catching mosaic doorsteps were created - possibly as recently as post-1974, as they aren’t mentioned in the official Listing description, lodged in May of that year.
