The next bench that features in my series on the Bloomsbury Book Benches is the one that is located in Queen Square.
Pride and Prejudice was written by Jane Austen and published in 1813. I am familiar with the story not, I have to confess, from reading the book, but from watching the 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. Personally, I think the casting of Donald Sutherland as Mr Bennet in that film was a stroke of genius!
This particular bench is suffering from being located under the trees in Queen Square. The birds that settle above have clearly not heard of Jane Austen, or the high regard in which this particular work is held, as they seem quite happy to leave their ‘deposits’ all over the bench, which is a bit of a shame!
