I’m getting old. After this gig, I went home and all I wanted was to put my feet up and have a cup of decaf earl grey rooibos tea!
I haven’t been to a gig in ages, and it was full of millennials, all obsessed with recording their moments and experience with selfies and videos. I spent most of the gig getting elbowed by selfie-hungry seekers, or watching the gig through their phones because they were blocking my view. There was also a drink couple who decided to be aggressive and push everyone around, PDA and sing off key really loudly to drown out the singer.
I enjoyed the gig, especially when he sang my most favourite song, but felt the experience was spoilt by everyone capturing the moment and not being present, and enjoying the moment.
(I felt a bit hypocritical taking my phone out to capture my photo for the day!) (That’s Tom Odell by the way, and you should all listen to ‘Grow old with me’)
