You had a grand idea;
get up early and watch the sun rise.
You picked me up at 8am,
of course my alarms didn’t
wake me up, so you waited
for me to get ready.
We left my apartment
at 8:30am, sun due to rise at 9.
A short walk to Starbucks, and
off we went from there.
Eggnog latte in one hand,
and your hand in the other.
I walked with you, leading you
to my favourite spot by the river.
We were both contented. Chilly bodies
with warm hearts: In love.
we slip, but don’t fall, while
walking on Saskatoon streets.
Silence filled the wintery air,
but broke with voices, as we were
no longer the only inhabitants of this view.
Obscure references and laughter;
mutual teasing, and warm breath.
You kiss my cheek, and I don’t
see myself ever being happier
than I am now. We speak
to deeper levels of communication.
You don’t say “I don’t care”, but rather
“I don’t mind listening”.
My cryptic words aren’t
understood by many. Hopefully
you’ll be there to explain them to me,
when they are lost in a sea
of creative expression.
Bis dann, mein lieber,
wir sind glücklich.
