The String Theatre

May 3rd, 2014, 8am

It was 7°C with clouds and visibility OK. The wind was light.

This corner was once the very centre of London’s famous String District and, high above the street, every Thursday evening, this is where the legendary String Theatre would perform. Look up now and you’ll see the high windows created as roping and entry points for the technicians and performers and you can imagine the elaborate criss-crossing cats cradles which characterised every show. Every third Lamas Eve the streets hereabouts are closed and The String Theatre performs again; though many believe that nylon safety ropes have dampened the thrills and ruined the aesthetics.
