There's nothing quite like a bit of lovely light.

December 22nd, 2013, 12pm

It was 10°C with few clouds. There was moderate breeze.

I was on my way to meet some friends for coffee and a chat in London on Friday, walking up the stairs on the West side of London Bridge after exiting the Underground at Monument, when a patch of stunning light appeared. I was so excited by it that when I turned and continued my ascent after snapping this image, I bounded up the stairs with such speed I nearly knocked a woman over as she turned the corner on her way down.

I smiled broadly, said “Sorry!” and then laughed to myself about how giddy I get when it see amazing light.

To anyone who says photographers miss experiencing the world around them because they are always seeing it through a camera: I think it’s completely the other way around. If only the rest of the world could see it through our eyes… and this is why we capture it.
