Demons of commerce

December 4th, 2013, 12am

I don’t know what they’re thinking, really.

Every year around christmas it’s the same. The decorators of that specific clothes outlet in my hometown get creative. This time it’s mannequins wearing animal masks. I dig surreal, I truly do. But this kind of subliminal, probably even unintentional surrealism rubs me up in a stranger way than, say, a Max Ernst painting or a Meret Oppenheim object. It feels like they touch the heart of weird while staying totally clueless and almost innocent.

What’s the business proposal here anyway? “Buy our stuff, it looks good on demons”? “Mutants welcome”? “Let’s put on sweatshop apparel and mask hollow with creepy”?

Maybe I’m too literal minded.

Adrian, Cassie, Paul, David Wade and 3 others said thanks.
