Mindfulness on Hermit Lake (Day Twenty-seven) Which Will You Follow: The path of fear or the path of love?

May 12th, 2014, 1pm

Fear is an emotion induced by a threat perceived by living entities, which causes a change in brain and organ function and ultimately a change in behavior, such as running away, hiding or freezing from traumatic events. Fear may occur in response to a specific stimulus happening in the present, or to a future situation, which is perceived as risk to health or life, status, power, security, or in the case of humans wealth or anything held valuable. What if fear could be perceived as a necessary condition for courage?

Love is a variety of different feelings, states, and attitudes that ranges from interpersonal affection (“I love my mother”) to pleasure (“I loved that meal”). It can refer to an emotion of a strong attraction and personal attachment. It can also be a virtue representing human kindness, compassion, and affection—”the unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another”. It may also describe compassionate and affectionate actions towards other humans, one’s self or animals. All forms of love include a sense of belonging and wholehearted acceptance of that belonging with all of its implications. To truly understand love, it must begin by first loving yourself.
