Six brave women from the Franklin Pierce community stood on that very stage to share their encounters with rape, or with someone they know who has been raped.
They open up deepest parts of themselves to challenge the community to pledge against rape. To pledge against victim blaming. To pledge against rape jokes. To confront the disturbing fact that rape has become a public health issue. To be an active bystander and end rape culture.
The experience was powerful. No one left that theater the same. The crown was left sobbing after these young ladies shared their story of pain and overcoming the very moment they spoke on that stage.
We were a part of their healing process.
As a community I think Franklin Pierce had an genuine moment of transformation. Here we had six students who were strong enough to tell their story so we may come together as a whole for a positive change.
Over fifty students gathered to listen to their story. It was like everyone there wanted to let these women know that they are seen and they are heard. Everyone who attended was a silent reminder that this effort was not in vain.
I’m grateful to be in a time where it’s encouraged and more important than ever to speak your truth. May their bravery be the guiding light to everlasting change in this community and around the world.
